At Lowcountry Vets and Healing Holistic Care, we utilize herbal medicine, acupuncture, food therapy, laser therapy, and manual manipulations either to complement Western veterinary medicine or as the sole treatment.
Dr. Genevieve is both a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA) and a Certified Veterinary Chinese Herbalist (CVCH). In addition, she also has experience with food therapy and massage and has been a practicing veterinarian for over 20 years in four different states and internationally.
Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with a 4,000-year history, herbal therapies blend ancient wisdom with modern preparation techniques. Herbal medicine works by restoring balance and supporting the body’s natural healing abilities.
Formulas are made from whole plant parts and minerals, preserving the synergy of their natural compounds—unlike conventional medicine, which isolates active ingredients. Herbs are carefully selected based on their effects (e.g., warming, cooling, sour, bitter) and their impact on organs such as the liver, lungs, or heart.
Herbal therapies can be used alone or alongside Western medicine to treat conditions like hypothyroidism, Cushing’s disease, diabetes, gastrointestinal and kidney disorders, respiratory issues, and sports injuries. They also support geriatric and cancer patients, with some formulations even helping to shrink tumors and improve quality of life.
Acupuncture involves placing fine needles at specific points on the body to stimulate healing and restore balance. Used for thousands of years in both humans and animals, it supports the body’s natural ability to heal.
The most common technique is dry needling with fine stainless steel needles. Acupuncture is especially helpful for functional issues such as pain, inflammation, and paralysis. Common conditions in pets include musculoskeletal disorders, asthma, allergies and digestive problems. Research shows acupuncture stimulates nerves, eases pain, relaxes muscles, and influences hormone release. It pairs well with massage, herbal remedies, nutrition, and conventional medicine. Before treatment, we perform a full physical exam, review your pet’s history, and may recommend diagnostic tests. Some pets improve after one session, but chronic issues often need 3–6 treatments. Sessions are usually weekly at first, then taper based on response.
Canine massage is a therapeutic, hands-on technique that involves gentle manipulation of your dog’s muscles and soft tissues.
Canine massage is a gentle, hands-on therapy that helps relax muscles, relieve pain, and support overall wellness. Suitable for dogs of all ages, it promotes healing after injury, eases arthritis and chronic conditions, and reduces stress. Benefits include improved circulation, flexibility, digestion, immune function, mood, and early detection of health issues—with no side effects and plenty of tail wags.
